Abstract

361,517. Actuating rocking-bar controllers electromagnetically. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 147, Queen Victoria Street, London, and CURTIS, A. H., The Lodge, Clapham Road, Bedford. Oct. S, 1930, No. 30138. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v).] Contacts; no-volt release.-A switch is so constructed that upon movement of an operating member in one direction, a mechanically connected contact is moved from an " off " position into engagement with a fixed contact, and upon the return of the operating member, the moving contact is guided by two sliding surfaces along a different path into engagement with a second fixed contact. When an electromagnet 11, Fig. 2, is energized, a member 16 is attracted, rotating about an axis 4, and driving by means of a pin 19 plates 3, Fig. 4, one at each end of the switch. The plates 3 rotate about the pivot 4, and carry contact members 1 into engagement with the upper of fixed contacts 10. A plate 7 is also rotated about the pivot 4 by a link 5 which is carried by a spindle 2, supported between the plates 3, and has a pin 6 engaging with a slot 8 in the plate 7. A pin 15 on the plate 7 actuates the core 13 of a no-volt magnet 12 into its attracted position, where it is retained by the energization of the magnet 12. When the electromagnet 11 is de-energized, therefore, a spring 17 returns the member 16, and with it the plates 3, but the plate 7 is kept raised by the engagement of the pin 15 with a groove 14 in the core 13, so that the pin 6 travels down the slot 8 and the contact 1 is moved into engagement with the lower of the fixed contacts 10. Three sets of contacts 1, 10 may be provided side by side for starting a three phase motor, the second movement of the moving contacts either putting a fuse into each phase or cutting out a step of resistance, or a portion of an auto-transformer winding.
