Abstract
538,582. Electrically-released switches. CRABTREE & CO., Ltd., J. A., and McLOUGHLIN, H. F. Aug. 22, 1940, No. 13328. [Class 38 (v)] A no-volt release, applicable to the switchgear described in Specifications 533,166 and 533,167, in which a spindle h can be operated by a handle to an " on " position on either side of a neutral " ofF position, from either of which, " on " positions it can be released by a thermallysensitive element operating a trip bar, comprises a winding j energized when either contacts first close, and an armature I which is pivoted at l<1> and urged against the core k by a spring m. The final movement of the spindle h causes a stud n to engage a roller o, thereby separating one part p= of a two-part carrier p from the other part p<1> and retaining it agaihst the action of a spring q, the other carrier-part being mounted on pivot s and held by engagement of a lug p<4> thereon over the armature so long as the latter is retained by the magnet k. When the armature is released, spring q causes it to move so that a bracket t thereon engages an L-shaped bracket u and displaces a roller v to produce tripping. The resilient movable contacts cause the parts to return to normal after tripping, and spring m returns the armature into engagement with the core. A separate two-part carrier is provided for each direction of handle-movement.
