588,724. Electrically-tripped switches. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Nov. 13, 1944, No. 22378. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1943. [Class 38 (v)] A switch comprises a movable contact 1, operated, for example, by a magnet 4, and a normally-fixed contact 5, the latter being tripped and moved away from the contact 1 in the event of a short-circuit. The contact 5 is a metal strip biassed by a spring 13 away from the contact 1, but is normally retained by abutments 18 thereon engaging half-cylinders 16, which rotate with an armature 8, pivoted at 15. When the armature 8 is attracted by quenching magnet coils 7, it releases the contact 5, which moves quickly owing to its small inertia. The contact 5 may be re-set by a member 19. The abutments 18 may be welded to the contact 5 or formed integral with it, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), or a downwardly projecting pin or tongue fixed to, or bent out of, the contact 5, may engage a single central half-cylinder located below the contact, Figs. 6-9 (not shown).
