Abstract

614,510. Automatic circuit-breakers. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. July 17, 1946, No. 21442. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1945. [Class 38 (v)] An automatic circuit-breaker is tripped by the action of a bimetallic strip 20 which joins moving contacts. 19 mounted on a sliding frame 2 within the body 1. A flat strip 3 is free to slide within the frame 2, but may be locked to it by means of a projection 4 abutting a T- shaped catch 21, which has a rod 23 bearing on the bimetallic strip. A contact-pressure spring 7 is placed between shoulders 5 formed on the strip 3, and a press-button 6. The end of the strip 3 is bent over at 8 to overlap a rod 9 fixed within the button. In the position shown the circuit-breaker is closed and when an overload occurs the bimetallic strip moves the catch 23, 21 clear of the projection 4 so that a spring 27 forces the sliding frame upwards to break the circuit. The sliding frame then strikes a projection 14 on a stirrup 12 causing it to pivot about pins 10 to release the rod 9 from books 13. The push-button 6 is then forced up into the " off " position by springs 18, causing the rod 9 to lift the strip 3 to reset the projection 4 on the catch 21. The circuit breaker is re-closed by pushing the button down so that the contact pressure spring pushes the strip 3 and sliding frame 2 down to close the contacts 19, 25, the button being held down by the re-engagement of the rod 9 with the hooks 13, which are moved back into position by the action of spring 18 pushing on a plate 15 which bears on the stirrup 12 by means of a short lever. A screw socket may be provided in lieu of the plug-pins 26.
