Abstract
429,762. Street &c. lamps. KEENE, J., and BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd., Brantwood Works, Tariff Road, Tottenham, London. Dec. 6, 1933, No. 34288. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a street or other lamp, two or more directional reflectors 27, 28 are arranged so as to be focused on spaced points or parts of an extended linear light source 29, which may be a gaseous discharge lamp. The reflectors are further arranged to permit direct illumination in a direction approximately opposite to that in which they direct the light. The reflectors may be made of plated metal, from one sheet with the directional portions merging into one another. The reflectors may be parabolic and focused with the mid-points of the upper and lower halves of the light source, and may be adjustable or readily detachable. The lantern 10, 11, 12, which is hexagonal in plan, has the pair of sides facing in the direction of the highway wider than the others. The sides through which the reflectors 27, 28 direct light, in the direction of retreat of traffic, are fitted with prismatic ribbed glass, and the other sides are fitted with " pinhead " or other diffusing glass. Additional reflectors may be provided when the lamp is used at cross-roads. The bottom of the reflector is closed by a hinged flap. Specification 331,055, [Class 36], is referred to.
