Abstract

429,731. Metallic-vapour converters. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London. Oct. 2, 1934, No. 28193. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1933. [Class 39 (i)] A metal-vapour converter having a glass bulb is provided with a cooling system which comprises a circulating liquid adapted to be cooled by air currents, wherein a fan is located beneath the bulb, a recooling coil is arranged between the fan and the bulb, and a recooling tank is arranged level with, or just above, the fan so that air from the fan may flow directly on to the bulb. Liquid is circulated by a pump 4, through the cooler 6 of the converter, a conical helical coil 5 and the tank 3, and is cooled by the fan 2. In a modification, the coil 5 consists of a flat spiral and the tank 3 is extended to surround the bulb and is provided with cooling fins. The inner wall of the tank may be conically shaped and the tank may be subdivided into cells which are located between anode arms.
