Abstract

492,066. Heating and cooling liquids. SERCK RADIATORS, Ltd., and ZIMMERMANN, H. J. May 27, 1937, No. 14699. [Class 64 (i)] A quenching apparatus for metal articles has cooling and circulating means comprising the combination of a tubular cooler a, mounted near one end of a tank b containing the quenching fluid, a centrifugal pump c arranged adjacent to the lower end and at the remote side of the cooler, an electric motor n mounted behind and above the cooler, and a spindle k connecting the motor to the pump. The cooler a is contained in a sheet metal chamber e suspended in the tank b. The tank liquid is caused to flow into the top of the chamber e, down over the tubes q to be withdrawn by the pump c to pass beneath the cooler a, and to rise through a perforated grid i arranged parallel with and near the bottom of the tank b. The cooler a comprises horizontal parallel tubes between vertical headers.
