Abstract

678,892. Transformers. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 3, 1951 [Sept. 19, 1950], No. 23008/50. Class 38 (ii). [Also in Group XIII] An electric transformer 1 is immersed in oil in an inner tank 2 which is resiliently mounted in, but separated by an air space 5 from an outer tank 4 and cooled by a flow of liquid over the outer surfaces of the inner tank. This liquid is normally circulated by a pump 13 through a cooler 12 and a reservoir 11 and is sprayed at 9 over the inner tank 2. Upon failure of the pump, oil from the reservoir 11 fills the cooler 12 and the space 5 between the two tanks 2, 4, and the cooling liquid is circulated by convection. To reduce emission of noise the inner tank is resiliently mounted at 3 and electrical connection is made to the transformer through resilient conductors 8. The inner tank may have cooling fins or forced oil circulation.
