Abstract

618,111. Cooling electric motors. TUCKER., H. V., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 21, 1946, No. 31225. [Class 35] A vertical spindle totally enclosed motor driving a pump located beneath it has liquid cooling ducting arranged around the outer part of the stator and has an air bell casing surrounding the motor in spaced relationship with the water-cooled surface of the core. As shown, the motor 2 driving the pump 5 is cooled by the pumped fluid conveyed to ducts disposed about or in the periphery of the stator core by pipe 9 and returned by pipe 8. The liquid may flow in opposite directions in adjacent ducts, if axially disposed or the ducts may be arranged helically. A separate pump may be used to circulate the cooling liquid.
