Abstract

428,905. Pencil holders. TAKAHASHI, T., 1045, Nishidaikoku, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Japan. Aug. 20, 1934, No. 24022. [Class 146 (iii)] A pencil holder comprises an external cylindrical case, a leadholder fixed to the case along its axial line, and a protecting tube arranged concentrically around the lead-holder and frictionally fitted thereto by means of a spring so as to be slidable therealong while the point of the lead is worn off. As shown, the lead-holder 2 consists of a metal rod screwed into a false bottom in the case 1, and terminating adjacent the point of the case, so that practically the total length of the lead is always exposed outside the case. The protecting tube 3 encircles the holder 2, and frictionally grips the latter by means of integral spring fingers 4 provided at the inner end of the tube. A space 6 for spare leads, an eraser 7, and a cap 8 may be provided on the case. In modifications the inner end of the tube 3 fits over or under spring fingers secured to the holder 2, and the outer end of the holder does not extend to the point of the case. In a further form the holder has a long threaded portion at its inner end which is threaded into a rotatable plug so that the length of the lead exposed outside the case may be adjusted. The interior of the plug receives spare leads. Packings prevent the free rotation of the plug.
