Abstract

428,371. Valve circuits for wireless reception. PUGH, D. W., and BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., 58, Victoria Street, London. Nov. 6, 1933, No. 30763. [Class 40 (v)] A short-wave superhet receiver for television, in which the second detector is of the " quenched " or super-regenerative type, is characterized by the feature that the quenching frequency is at or near one of the " zero " or elided frequencies of the scanning system. The incoming signal may be applied to a backcoupled triode detector-oscillator, and the resulting " sum " frequency passed to a quenched triode for demodulation. Or, as shown, the intermediate frequency from the superhet stage is applied to the input circuit of a two-grid detector valve 9, the input grid 10 being back-coupled to the anode in the ordinary way, whilst the second grid 117 is back-coupled to the anode through the coils 12, 13 to produce a quenching frequency. The demodulated signals are passed through a filter 14, 15 (to cut out carrier and quenching frequencies) to a further amplifier, and thence to the scanning device. The quenching frequency is higher than the highest modulation frequency but lower than the intermediate frequency. Specification 393,960 is referred to.
