Atmospheris, eliminiating or limiting; thermionic valves, arrangements of. - Comprises a system of thermionic valves excited and coupled back to a mistuned wireless receiving circuit in such a way as to reduce the effect of shock-excitation due to atmospherics while amplifying the effect of waves of desired frequency. The receiving-circuit 1, 2, which contains a variable resistance 3 and may be the antenna circuit, is connected through an amplifier 21 to a detector 22. In order to destroy the effect of atmospherics, a further system of valves 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 is connected to the receiving circuit and is tuned to a frequency different from that of the received signals. The transformer 12 is so arranged that the oscillatory currents of the valves 7, 8 are opposite in phase, that of the valve 7 being of slightly greater strength. The algebraic sum of these two currents is led through the back-coupling 13 with the object of neutralizing the atmospherics and amplifying the signal. The valve-system described may alternatively form part of the ordinary re ceiving system.
