428,267. Folding paper. HOE & CO., Ltd., R., 109, Borough Road, London.- (Hoe & Co., Inc., R. ; 138th Street, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 1, 1934, No. 25246. [Class 100 (i)] A former for a printing-machine has a flexible nose piece and means which operate on the nose piece, in a region between the free end of the nose piece and the junction of the nose piece with the body portion o the former, for flexing the nose piece to vary the setting of the curvature thereof. As shown, the triangular former 15 is composed of a thin steel plate supported and reinforced at its edges by round bars 16 which form the curved edges of the former, and a nose piece 27, preferably of thin flexible steel plate, secured to the main portion by screws. A lever 35 is pivoted at one end, in a bracket 29 secured on the inner side of the nose 27, and intermediately in a bracket 32 on the nose adjacent to the main portion of the former. The free end of the lever 35 is connected to an adjusting rod 36 secured to a carriage 17, whereby the curvature of the nose can be adjusted to suit the number of combined webs to be folded. The free unsupported end of the nose 27 will automatically adjust itself to suit the multiple web to be folded. The former 15 is mounted on the carriage 17, which can be adjusted laterally by a hand wheel 20 to suit the width of the webs, and the inclination of the former can be varied by the adjusting rod 18 secured to the carriage 17. The web W is delivered to the drag roller 24 mounted on a driven shaft 25, then over the former and between a pair of rotatable non-driven bending-rollers 43.
