[Class 130] [Also in Group XVIII] One end or a portion of the cigarette tube 2 has a part only of its circumference enclosed by a strip 1 of paper or other suitable material, which is attached to the tube at a localized area 4 of the strip and by an adhesive of such a nature that the strip can be removed as a whole without damage to the tube. The strip 1 may be a coupon carrying printed or advertising matter. As shown, the strip 1 embraces one end of the cigarette and terminates with its ends 5 disposed on either side of the seam 3 of the cigarette tube. A slow-drying adhesive is applied along the edge 4 farthest from the end of the cigarette and may be a preparation of printers' ink with the addition of molasses or glycerine, or a bronzing preparation. In making cigarettes by a continuousrod method, a paper strip of double the width required for the strip 1 is attached along a restricted central area by a slow-drying adhesive to the cigarette paper web or to the cigarette rod at intervals, so that the strip is bisected when the rod is cut to form single cigarettes.
