Abstract

422,211. Feeding webs. JAMES, H. V., Cintra, Watford Road, Radlett, Hertfordshire. July 15, 1933, No. 20097. [Class 100 (i)] A tab for holding down the leading end of a new web roll to the body of the roll during web-renewing operations in printing and other machines consists of a piece of paper or other material c having two spaced lines of perforations d extending from one edge of the material to a cut line or slot e. The inner portion g is adapted to be secured by adhesive to the narrowed portion b<1> of the web near its extreme end b<2> and the outer portion h to the body of the roll. Narrow strips on each side of the rows of perforations and a strip on the side of the slot e remote from the portion g are left free from adhesive and the strip overlaps the extreme end b' of the web to prevent lift of this end by wind pressure when the roll is rotated. Paste is applied to the outer face of the portion g and the adjacent part of the end of the web, and when the expiring web is pressed against the rotating roll, the portion g is torn away from the remainder, this tearing being facilitated by the provision of openings f at the junction of the perforations and slot e.
