Abstract

404,216. Feeding webs. HART, H., 9, Kingsway, London.-(Wood Newspaper Machinery Corporation ; 501, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) July 3, 1933, No. 18793. [Class 100 (i).] In web-renewing apparatus for printing and other machines, the leading end of the new web is attached to the body of the roll by one or more tabs comprising two main portions 4, 5, Fig. 1, adapted to be secured respectively to the roll body and the end of the web, and an intermediate portion 6 weaker than the main portions 4, 5. In one form the portion 5 comprises two flaps 5, 5a, Fig. 4 adapted to receive a pointed part 2 of the end of the web and to be secured thereto by adhesive, the portion 4 consisting of a single flap. The portion 6 is weakened by perforations, indentations, or cuts, preferably by converging cuts 6a, Fig. 1. In a second form, Fig. 6, the cuts are formed in the part 5a and lie behind a strip 7 integral with the parts 4, 5 but separated therefrom by rows of perforations 7a. The strip 7 protects the part 6 until the tab is attached to the roll, when the strip 7 is detached.
