UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH KAKALEY, OF HAZLETON, PENNSYLVANIA.
LETTER SHEET. AND ENVELOPE. I
Application filed. April 26,
The object of the invention is the construction of an envelope from a single blank of paper which may be used as a letter sheet and which, when folded, will constitute two sepastep in the folding of the envelope.
Figure 3 next step.
Figure 4 is a plan view showing the envelope folded but the sealing flap extended. Figure 5 is a plan view of theenvelope completely folded, lookingto the rear of the structure disclosed in Figure 41.
Figure 6 isa sectional view on an enlarged scale, and approximately on the line 6-6 of'Figure 5.
As disclosed by my improved envelope is formed from a single sheet of material, the body of which being provided with transverse score lines to divide the same into a face portion 1, a sealing flap 2, a sheet 3 and an end flap 4. The sealing flap 2has its-edges coated'with an adhesive substance. The flap 4: has an extension 5, divided therefrom by a .score line 6. On the face 1, the-body is provided with lateral extensions divided from the face by score lines and providing flaps 7 and 8 respectively, each of which having its face adhesively coated.
In forming the blank into an envelope the is a similar view showing the Figure 1 of the drawing,"
1924. Serial No. 709,238.
flap 5 is folded over the rear face of the end 4, and the end 4 is then folded on the score line that divides the same from the sheet 3. The sheet 3 is then folded on its score line- Which divides the samefrom' the face 1 and the flap 5 is adhesively secured on said face. The flap 7 is next adhesively secured to the sheet 3. This provides the compartment 9 of the envelope. The flap 2 is adhesively connected to the flap 7 and the sheet 3 to produce the'second compartment 10. When the-device is employed for contributions or for second class mail, the flap 8 is extended or folded under the fiap 2. When the device Is to beiemployed for first'class mail or .to
provide two sealed compartments theflap 8 I is adhesively connected to the sheet 3 before theflap 2 is folded thereover and adhesively v secured thereto. I
Before being folded into envelope form, the inner face of the bodymay be employed for writing purposes, i
Having described the invention, I claim 1- An envelope comprising a blank having a body portion, said body portion being dividedby transverse scoresinto four sections,
guinmed tabs ontheir extremities, onev of the center sections having two side tabs, the said blank being adapted to be folded on the transverse lines of score, the gummed tab of one end being secured to the face of the center sectionhaving the side tabs, the said tabs then being folded over and secured to. the back of the other center section, the remaining end being secured to the same said center section thereby forming a duplex envelope. I
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 7 JOSEPH KAKALEY.
eaehof the end sections being provided with I i
