[Class 59] A scraper comprises one or more thin strips of flexible metal loosely located in a longitudinal slot formed in a member pivotally disposed on a longitudinal axis parallel to the axis of the associated roller whereby the scraper is freely movable and/or is capable of rocking in relation to the member to permit the scraper aligning itself parallel to the roller. As shown thin flexible blades 1, 1a mounted in slots in tubes 2, 2a contact with rollers 10, 10a by the rotation of the tubes by rods 5, 5a adjustable by nuts 6, 6a. The nuts 6, 6a engage in the bifurcated ends of lever arms 9, 9a pivoted at 8 and another lever 9b integral with these arms is connected by a rod 11 to a clip 17 on a shaft 18 by which the rollers are separated so that the scrapers are removed from the rolls when the latter are separated. Lost motion at either end of the rod 11 may be provided so that the rolls are separated before the scrapers leave the rolls. In a modification the tubes 2, 2a are provided with rearwardly extended arms connected by a spring by means of which pressure is exerted by the scrapers on the rolls. Instead of a spring a non-extensible connection pressed laterally by a spring may be used. The scrapers may also be tensioned by eccentrically mounted presser bar or bars and the scraper may consist of a plurality of parallel scrapers carried in overlapping short tubes and adapted to be rotated independently. The scrapers 1, 1a are loosely mounted in the tubes 2, 2a and may be secured by bolts passing through the tubes and through enlarged holes in the scrapers, and the inner longitudinal edge in the tube may be curved so as to be rockable in the slot to adjust for non-parallelism between the scraper and roller.
