[Class 80 (ii)] A drive transmission unit for sewing- machines and the like comprises a driving shaft 14 which carries a sleeve 13 journalled through a bearing 10 in a support 5 and which has a driving clutch member 26 secured thereto, the driven clutch member 21 being journalled through a bearing 20 on a control sleeve 19 slidable on a tube 18, which latter surrounds but is spaced from the shaft and is secured to the support 5, the wheel 26 being journalled on the tube through a bearing 27. The sleeve 13 has a slot 17, Fig. 3, engaged by a projection 16 on a collar 15 fixed to the shaft 14, whereby the sleeve rotates with the shaft, but the latter is capable of axial movement relative to the sleeve and the support 5. The latter is pivotally mounted by screws 4 in a forked bracket 3 and is adapted to be fixed, after alignment of the shaft, by a pair of screws 6. A friction facing 8 is secured to a semicircular member 7 secured to the support 5, the member 7 being thus capable of easy removal. The member 21 is normally urged by a spring 24, abutting against a ring 25 engaging one of a number of grooves in the tube 18, into contact with the facing 8, whereby it is braked, and is adapted to be moved into contact with a facing 28 on member 26 by a pedal-operated lever 33. Adjacent sections 14, 114 of the driving shaft are secured together by the hub of the member 26, which is secured thereto by screws 30 and a key 35.
