[Class 35] [Also in Groups XXIV and VII] The armature shaft 5 of an electric motor 2 for driving sewing and similar machines, carries a disc 6 with which a friction disc 7 mounted on a shaft 3 is adapted to be brought into engagement by actuating a lever 8 which also carries a braking device. According to the invention, the shaft 3 is carried by a bracket 1, the other end of which is of cylindrical form to fit and be fixed to the outer curved surface of the motor casing.
