Benzol-containing wash oil is heated indirectly in a tube heater for a few minutes, to a temperature which does not exceed the boiling point of that of the benzol hydrocarbons to be expelled, and the vapours obtained fractionally condensed to obtain a main fraction of fuel benzol. The temperature in the tube heater is kept sufficiently low to prevent vaporization of the washing oil and the heater is followed by a separator chamber, the evaporable parts of the oil separating and passing to the condensing columns.
