Abstract

<PICT:0379262/III/1> In the recovery of light oil from wash oil containing it by distillation with steam in a column in which the vapours leaving the column are partially condensed by reflux cooling and the condensate separated by gravity into water and oil, the latter being returned to the column, the oil is preheated before being returned to the column preferably in a dephlegmator placed in the column. Saturated wash oil is preheated in a heater 4 and led into a column 1 where it is stripped by means of steam supplied through a sprayer 7, the stripped oil leaving through a pipe 8. The vapours are partially condensed in a dephlegmator 11 and the condensate collecting on a partition 20 is separated into oil and water in a separator 22, the water being removed by a pipe 23. The oil is returned by a pipe 24 to a dephlegmator 9 where it is reheated by the vapours before being returned to the column through a pipe 25. The vapours passing from the column are condensed in a condenser 15 cooled by water or wash oil and further cooled in a worm cooler 17 before passing to the separator 19. The oil from the separator 22 may be reheated by steam or by heat exchange with the stripped oil by jacketing the upper part of the separator instead of in the dephlegmator 9.
