Abstract

<PICT:0613533/III/1> Coke oven light oil removed from coke gas by absorption in wash oil is recovered therefrom by preheating the oil to 200 DEG C. by indirect contact with "Dowtherm" or like vapour boiling above 200 DEG C. at atmospheric pressure and stripping the light oil from the wash oil by contact with a small amount of sweep vapour, e.g. superheated steam, the light oil vapours being rectified to separate steam and wash oil carried over therewith and then fractionated to recover motor fuel and light and intermediate fractions. The plant shown comprises a gas scrubber 10, preheater 20, wash oil still 50 divided into stripping and fractionating sections 53, 52 by a plate pervious to vapours but not to liquids, a wash oil purifier 60, a light oil rectifier 89 divided into stripping and fractionating sections 83, 82, and condenser 97, and a motor fuel rectifying column 116. The wash oil circulation is from the spray 15 down the tower 10 and thence through heat exchanger 19, line 73, heat exchanger 19, cooler 74 and circulation tank 76 to the spray 15. The "Dowtherm" is circulated through boiler 30 and heater 20 with subsidiary circuits (a) through heater 61 where steam is superheated for feeding through line 64 and spray 65 into the wash oil purifier 60; (b) through lines 118, 119, to heat the reboiler 117 for the column 116. The light oil vapours are rectified in tower 89 into (a) an intermediate fraction withdrawn as bottoms to tank 88; (b) vapours taken overhead through line 96 to condenser 97 from which condensate is passed to secondary light oil separator 99 and storage tank 106. This fraction is rectified in tower 116 to recover motor fuel fractions but part is recycled as reflux to the towers 50, 89. Condensates collected in the bottom trays of the rectifying sections 52, 82 are passed to separators 55, 90 form which the oil layers are returned to the stripping sections 53, 83. A portion of the wash oil is transferred through line 58 to the purifier 60, impurities being removed through line 67.
