Abstract
<PICT:0344367/III/1> Fractions boiling below 300 DEG C. are removed from oils before the latter are cracked under pressure. The crude oil supplied by a line 21 is delivered by a pump 1 to the top of a dephlegmator 2, where the fractions boiling below 300 DEG C. are vapourized by contact with the hot vapours from an evaporator 7. The fractions boiling above 300 DEG C. collect in a tank 3 and are drawn through lines 25, 26, 26a by a pump 4 to a pair of cracking coils 5, 5a from which the cracked products pass through a cooling coil 6 to an evaporator 7 where evaporation is aided by a steam coil 43. The uncondensed vapours from the dephlegmator 2 pass by a line 31 to a second dephlegmator 9 where they are washed with presdistillate supplied from a tank 11. The vapours from the column 9 are condensed in a condenser 10 and pass to the tank 11. The condensate from the column 9 is collected in a receiver 13 and evacuated through a line 40, the residue from the evaporator being evacuated through a line 29. Part of the crude oil may be passed through a line 42 direct to the coil 5a.
