Abstract
311,362. Arnold, C., (Standard Oil Development Co.). Feb. 10, 1928. Hydrocarbons, cracking.-In a process' for cracking oils of the type comprising a heating coil 1 and a digestion drum 3 maintained under the same pressure, the temperature of the oil in the digestion drum is controlled by partially condensing the vapours formed in the drum 3 in a tower 7 maintained under the same pressure and returning the condensate through a pipe 11 into admixture with the oil passing from the coil to the drum 3 at a point 'anterior to that at which it enters the drum 3 through the pipe 1<a>. The uncondensed vapours from the tower 7 and the residual liquid in the drum 3 are mixed, after passage through pressure reducing valves 14, in a pipe 12 and discharged into a separator 18 in. which vaporization is aided by a steam spray. The condensed vapours pass to a condenser 22 while the condensate produced by the cooling coil 18, and the tar collecting at the bottom of the separator are removed through pipes 20, 17 respectively. The amount of condensate formed in the tower 7 is controlled by a cooling coil 10 through which the crude oil may be passed on its way to the coil 1. The coil 1, drum 3, and tower 7 are maintained under a pressure of. about 350 lbs. per sq. inch. Specification 302,415 is referred to.
