Abstract

<PICT:0391238/III/1> Oils are cracked by circulating them through a heating zone, withdrawing the vapours formed and partially condensing them, separating the condensate and cracking it in a second cracking zone, and returning the residues from the second zone to the first zone. Oils supplied through pipes 19, 19a are passed at low pressures through a heating coil 1 and a reaction chamber 2. The vapours separating in the chamber 2 are led off through a dephlegmator 3 cooled by a coil 26, the uncondensed vapours passing off through a line 15 and condenser 4 to a gasoline storage tank 5. The condensate formed in the dephlegmator is led off through pipes 13 or 16 according to he gravity required, and passed through a pipe 14 and separator 9 to a heating coil 6, where it is cracked at high pressure and temperature. The cracked products are passed through a pipe 6b to a reaction chamber 7 from which vapours pass through a line 12 into the dephlegmator 3 while liquid residues are returned through a pipe 24 and the pipe 19 to the first coil 1. Part of the cracked products from the coil 6 may be returned direct to the coil 1 through the pipe 19. Part of the liquid remaining in the chamber 2 may be withdrawn through a line 30 or withdrawn through a line 20 and mixed in the pipe 14 with the condensate to be cracked in the coil 6.
