Abstract
427,067. Cylinders. WEIR, Ltd., G. & J., Hohn Foundry, Cathcart, and PULLIN, C. G., 104, Queen's Drive, both in Glasgow. June 20, 1934, No. 18223. [Class 7 (ii)] Cylinders are mounted by two threaded rings, screwed on to the cylinder barrel and engaging the top and bottom surfaces of the socket in the crank-case, through which the barrel passes. Rings 3, 5 engage the barrel 1 by opposite-handed, coarse and fine, threads and the crank-case by flanges 9, 12. Before inserting the barrel in the crank-case the ring 5 is screwed up so that after assembly holes 10 in the ring 3 may be engaged by a claw spanner; afterwards the ring 5 is screwed back. A locking pin 14 engages recesses in a flange 11 on the ring 5 and holes 17 on the ring 3. Instead of engaging a thread on a stiffening flange 6, the ring 5 may engage a thread cut directly on the barrel ; the flange engaging the crankcase is then directed outwards and locked by a stud screwed into the crank case, and the ring 3 is locked by a lug on a band surrounding the base of the cylinder, a vernier arrangement of holes being provided. The space 18 inside the ring 5 may be utilized as a collector for exhaust discharged through ports in the cylinder wall.
