[Class 38 (v)] In a switch for high-tension alternating currents having an explosion chamber c partly filled with water, and an adjacent expansion chamber open to the atmosphere, the opening through which the movable switch member b passes into the chamber c being located above water level, the pressure produced in the chamber c, on opening the switch, forces a jet of water along a conduit e into the expansion chamber in a direction transverse to the direction of the arc.
