Abstract
426,971. Door latches. WARSHAWER, S. S., 321, Old Street, London. Nov. 7, 1933, No. 30928. [Class 44] A door required to be opened from one side only has a latch bolt operable by a sliding rod or press stud at such side and has a key - operated locking plate for engaging with the latch bolt. A form ot pivoted latch is shown in sectional elevation and plan in Figs. 2 and 6. The latch piece 1 has curved and straight faces 1<c>, 1<b> entering the striking plate aperture and is carried on an axle 2 ; a spring 5 projects the latch and a shoulder 1<d> butts on the casing wall. The latch is retracted by a push rod 7 which is hinged at 6 between ears 1<a> extending back from the latch head. A key-operated locking plate 8 controlled by the usual lock levers 10 can be shot forward to place its angled projections 8<b> behind the shoulders 1f of the latch and so prevent retraction of the latch. The screw cap 7<a> on the push rod 7 permits adjustment for different door thicknesses. A knob handle may surround the push rod and according to the Provisional Specification the latch may be projected by a helical spring arranged round the axle 2. Fig. 10 shows a sliding latch 1 retractable by a push rod, arranged at right-angles to the casing, acting on an incline 18<b> of a pivoted follower piece 18. A locking plate 8 inserts a projection behind the head of the latch. Fig. 17 shows a sliding latch 1 retractable by a cam member 23 hinged to the push rod 7. The locking plate itself may carry a lock bolt.
