[Class 114] [See also Group XXXI] A manually propelled toy vehicle or boat is characterized by the hand levers 21 being pivoted close to the longitudinal centre line of the vehicle or boat. As shown in Fig. 2, the levers 21 are secured to vertical shafts 16, having cranks in vertical alignment with the levers 21 to which connecting rods 22 are pivoted by universal joints 23, the rods being connected by universal joints 24 to crank arms 25 on a crossshaft 26 which carries a sprocket 28 coupled to a sprocket on the rear axle 4 by a chain 30. This device is modified for propelling a boat, by providing, on the shaft 4, a bevel gear which gears with a bevel on the propeller shaft. The propeller shaft carries a fly-wheel. In Fig. 3, the levers 21 actuate shafts 16 having free-wheel pinions 21a, 21<1>a, at the lower ends. The pinion 21a meshes with a wheel 45 rigid with a bevel wheel 46, whilst the other pinion 21a is geared to the wheel 45 through an idler 45a. The bevel 46 gears with a bevel 32 on the propeller shaft 33 which carries a flywheel 35. In Fig. 7, bevels 16a on the shafts 16 drive a double bevel 39 integral with the sprocket wheel 28. The connections between the shafts 16 and the bevels 16a may be freewheels, or, the shafts 16 may be connected to the bevels 16a by cranks and connecting rods.
