Abstract

293,925. Larson, J. P. April 26, 1927. Wave energy, utilizing.- Apparatus for driving propeller shafts comprises a weighted pendulum adapted to be oscillated by the ship's movements and having teeth on its periphery engaging gearing incorporating unidirectional mechanism. The pendulum 9 is suspended at 10 and has an inner and outer rack 13, 7 engaging wheels 6, 5 connected by ratchets 14 with the propeller shaft 2. A second pendulum on an axis at right angles to the propeller shaft may be provided, its shaft being coupled by bevel gears with the shaft 2. The supporting axle 10 may have levers secured thereto for hand oscillation when the ship's motion is insufficient. Each pinion may have two opposite ratchets either of which can be clutched to the shaft for forward or reverse running.
