Abstract
493,032. Screw propellers. THIEMANN, W. H. A. (Vereinigte Deutsche Metallwerke Akt.-Ges.) April 29, 1938, No. 12887. [Class 114] The setting of variable pitch screw propellers is indicated on a dial containing two hands, one of which has an angular motion 12 times that of the other. A shaft a, coupled to the pitch changing gear, is provided with bevel wheels b, b<1>, one of which is engaged with a bevel wheel c on the first shaft of a train of wheels x, the final shaft of which carries a pointer d. This train of wheels also drives a second train g, g<1>, upon the hollow shaft of which is mounted the second pointer f. For use with a propeller of opposite pitch, the bevel wheel c is engaged with the bevel wheel b<1>. In an alternative arrangement for providing an instrument capable of use with right- or left-handed propellers, there is provided an intermediate gear in the first train. This can be shifted, to suit a forward or reverse drive.
