Abstract
570,446. Magnetic compasses. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA ELEKTRO-INDUSTRI COMPANIET. Aug. 20, 1943, No. 13616. Convention date, Sept. 2, 1942. [Class 97 (ii)] In order to facilitate the taking of bearings, especially in aircraft, by compasses having a compass needle playing over a fixed compass rose and actuated by a magnetic system over a gear transmission and having an auxiliary pointer which is manually adjustable in relation to the compass needle 4, the auxiliary pointer 16 is fixed to a gear 15 which is rotatable by moans of a knob 18 through gears, while a compass scale 25 is also rotated in the opposite direction simultaneously by the knob through other gears. IF the auxiliary pointer 16 is adjusted to the desired course and the craft steered, i.e. altered in course, so that the needle 4 coincides with the auxiliary pointer 16, the compass scale 25 will give the desired bearing and directly indicate the course.
