Abstract

542,792. Calcnlating-apparatus. MAY, W. J. Nov. 7, 1940, No. 16196. [Class 106 (i)] An appliance is adapted to be used on a course-steering and bomb-sighting device of the type described in Specification 145,810, [Class 106 (i)], in order to enable the navigator to fly the correct course and to detect any errors in such flight. As shown in the device described in Specification 145,810 the appliance comprises a course and target area marked disc 7 adapted to be angularly adjustable together with disc 4 of the course steering device and a course-indicating bar 9 adapted to be adjusted angularly to the disc 7 in unison with the flight direction bar 8. The disc 7 is marked as shown in Fig. 5 with a map of the target area on one section and concentric lines 15 indicating mileage &c. from the periphery to the centre, i.e. from the starting point to the target, well accentuated land marks 16 being also marked, degrees 12 are also marked on the periphery. A hand adjustable and normally straight line course indicator 14 is mounted above the disc 7 and bears a line indicating such course.
