Abstract

[Class 123 (ii)] To accelerate steam generation a box-like compartment extends substantially the length of the furnace tube f to which its side and end walls are secured, and is of tapering form with a vertical steam pipe d at the deeper end of the box located above the combustion end of the furnace tube and a vertical water standpipe c at the other end. Pipes c, d open respectively below and above the boiler water level. Slots in the side or lower end may provide additional water inlets. A detachable cover b carrying the pipes c, d, is bolted to the flanged upper edges of the box.
