Abstract

774,157. Water-tube steam boilers. VORKAUF, H. April 1, 1955 [April 5, 1954], No. 9613/55. Class 123(2) A water-tube boiler comprises a steam and water drum 1 supported from the boiler foundations by downcomer tubes 2, 3 and 12 connected into the water space of the drum near its ends and near its midpoint respectively. Slightly below and to each side of the drum 1 are disposed steam and water mixture collectors 4 connected to the steam space of the drum by tubes 10. From the lower parts of collectors 4 and from a transversely disposed interconnection 9 therebetween steam generating tubes 5, 7, 8 extend downwardly to define respectively the side walls, front wall and roof, and rear wall of a combustion chamber. In service the drum 1 can be operated at higher outputs since extensive pre-separation of the steam-water mixture occurs in the collectors 4, the steam flowing into the drum 1 through pipes 10 whilst the separated water is returned directly to the downcomers by means of pipes 11, the latter also serving to support the collectors.
