Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 29, 1933]. Application for addition to 407,411. [Class 38 (ii)] Relates to a modification of the voltage regulator described in the parent Specification and consists in the coil S3, Fig. 2, being inductively coupled to the circuit Ep by means of a coil S4 mounted on the movable iron core of the regulator in addition to the winding S3. The coil S3 may be in the form of a tapped secondary winding as shown in Fig. 3. Various arrangements are described in which regulators of the form shown in Fig. 2 are used for phase regulation in a three phase system. One example is shown in Fig. 5 in which the three regulators are arranged with the windings S3<1>, S3<11>, S3<111> centre-tapped and connected to the 3-phase supply, the windings S4<1>, S4<11>, S4<111> being connected in delta to the supply. With this arrangement voltages in quadrature to the phase voltages of the supply are injected. By varying these the phase of the output can be adjusted. Other arrangements are described in which phase and voltage regulation are obtained. These consist mainly in arrangements for injecting voltages which are not in quadrature to the phase voltages of the supply so that by variation of these voltages a variation of both magnitude and phase takes place.
