April 29, 1931, No. 12648. Convention date, April 29, 1930. [Class 38 (iv).] Systems depending on static transformers.- The degree of boost voltage introduced into an alternating current load circuit 5 from a transformer winding such as 9 is varied in accordance with an electrical condition of the circuit, such as voltage or current, by varying the current in the saturating winding of a reactor 11 in series with the primary winding of the transformer. The saturating current is obtained through a rectifier 16, and a resistance or reactance in series is varied in accordance with the load circuit changes by a solenoid 26 subject, for example, to the load circuit voltage. The reactance has two parallel windings both interlinked with the saturating winding in such a way as to avoid inducing an alternating voltage in the saturating winding. The Figure shows a body of conducting liquid 19 arranged to shortcircuit sections of resistance 17 as the container rises with decreasing load circuit voltage under dashpot control. In a modification the core of a reactance coil in the input circuit of the rectifier is moved by similar means.
