[Class 38 (iv)] [See also Group XXXVII] A motor 3 driving a ship's propeller, a fan, or a pump, has its field 7 varied in accordance with the armature current by means of a regulator 5. As shown, the motor is supplied from a variable voltage generator 2 driven by a Diesel engine 1, and a single controlling device may be effective first to reduce the speed of the engine, and then control the excitation of the generator.
