Abstract
<PICT:0424691/III/1> Apparatus for the production of ozone for therapeutic purposes has a gas inflow pipe, to which may be attached a suitable supply of oxygen or air, provided with a pressure regulating valve and velocity measuring gauge, leading to an ozone producer from which the gas is conveyed to the point of treatment by means of a flexible outflow pipe terminating in a suitable applying instrument, e.g. a canula. The ozonizer may consist of two spaced coaxial tubes, the outer having a metallic coating connected to earth, and the inner tube having an internal metallic coating connected to a source of high potential or the inner metallic coating may be replaced by a closed glass tube filled with a gas such as argon or chlorine of which the spectrum contains ozone producing and as few as possible ozone decomposing rays. The dielectric material may also be permeable to ultra-violet rays. The supply of gas may be introduced tangentially into the ozonizing space. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the gas circulates at high velocity along the spiral passage immediately surrounding the inner electrode E filled with gas and then passes tangentially into the outer space where it is again subjected to ozonization at low velocity. The direction of flow of the gas may also be reversed. The flexible outflow tube consists of a small bore seamless metal tube of ozone-resisting material, e.g. aluminium, arranged in the form of a screw and may be provided with a protective outer coating. For injection purposes, the flow of gas may be reduced by inserting capillaries or a porous ceramic filter in or before the applying instrument. Fig. 6 shows a canula with an enlarged mouth for applying ozone to large surfaces of the body. Fig. 5 shows a flexible hollow needle with a cone which is inserted into the conical mouth of a canula and acts as a further regulating valve. A needle of this type may be used for the treatment of the root passages of teeth. The olygo-dynamic action of silver in root passages which have been treated with ozone is increased. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the olygo-dynamic action of silver articles or instruments is increased by preliminary treatment with ozone. It is also preferable to make any articles to be used for insertion, such as drainage tubes, needles, or sheets, of silver to obtain an increased olygodynamic action when ozone treatment is used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
