424,680. Spherical bearings; lubricating. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN, 17, Artillerigatan, Gothenburg, Sweden. Sept. 6, 1934, No. 25695. Convention date, Jan. 23. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (ii)] In a spherical bearing, the outer bearing ring 3 is of greater axial length than the coacting spherical surface 2 of the inner bearing ring 1 so as to support frictionally on its spherical surface thrust flanges 4, 5 which slidingly engage the plane end faces of the ring 1. This arrangement obviates a high load at the edges of the journal and brings about an even distribution of both radial and thrust loads. The flanges 4, 5 are supported on spaced zones, the recesses 8 between which facilitate lubrication. The ring 1 is of T-section, lubricant being thrown centrifugally from the groove 9 through passages 10 to the bearing surfaces. The tilting property of the flanges 4, 5 facilitates the formation of wedge-shaped oil films at the thrust surfaces.
