Abstract
424,567. Spectacles. WINGATE, G. H., 15, Wigmore Street, London. July 24, 1933, No. 20826. [Class 97 (i)] The eyes of non-metallic frames are reinforced by metallic inner rim portions engaging the rims of the lenses and provided with lugs relatively to which the side joints are fixed and thereby positioned by metallic parts relatively to the eyes. Fig. 1 shows a form in which the reinforcement extends completely round the eyes and passes through the bridge so that the whole frame is reinforced. The reinforcement consists of two wires 1, 2 of channel section with their concave surfaces facing each other, the wires being in contact where they pass through the bridge and then separating and passing round the eyes. Lugs 1<a>, 2<a> for the attachment of the sides 6 are secured to one end of the wires 1, 2, respectively and the free end of each wire is close to the lug on the other wire, a small clearance being left so that the lens can be sprung in. Fig. 3 shows a form in which only a short length of eye reinforcement 1 is used, and the lug 1<b> for the attachment of the side lies perpendicular to the plane of the eye, the non- metallic material being split or slotted to receive it. In another form in which the whole frame is reinforced, the reinforcement consists of a single length of wire passing through the bridge and round the eyes, the ends of the wire being adjacent the ends of the bridge. Specification 410,351 is referred to.
