[Class 46] [See also Group XXXII] In filter-presses each filter tray or plate is suspended from a pair of rollers travelling along an overhead girder, rail, or runway, the rollers of each pair running on different tracks and being spaced one in front of the other so as to form a wheel base. The girder 11, Fig. 1, may be of inverted T. or I- section with the rollers 15 running on paths on its lower flange. Attached to each filter plate 10 are two oppositely inclined arms 16 each carrying a roller 15, the two rollers being on opposite sides of the central web of the girder. There may be a second roller path on each side of the web for alternate rollers to run upon, so that larger rollers may be used. Two girders 11 may be inclined towards one another as shown in Fig. 3 so that the tops of their inner flanges may be horizontal. The rollers 15 run on these inner flanges and the two arms 16 are carried by one attachment 17 on the filter plate. A carriage 19 travelling on the girders 11 supports a winding drum for lifting the roller units and filter plates when required. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which the attachment member 17 carries two vertical arms 16 having inclined bearings for flanged rollers 15, the two rollers being on opposite sides of the girder. Vertical rollers 20 prevent the rollers 15 from leaving the girder flange. These rollers 20 may be easily removable or fixed on axes adapted to swivel over to allow of removal of the attachment from the girder. The rollers 15 may be held in place by angle pieces fixed or hinged on the girder, or the edges of the flanges may be turned up. The roller paths on the girders may be sunk, raised, or flanged ; or they may be formed on bars, rails or angle pieces secured on the girders. The rollers may have two flanges, or their peripheries may be flat, grooved, rounded or V-shaped in cross section. The framing of the press may be constructed of steel joists. The plates may be raised above the side bars of the press and pressure applied to them at three points, the pressure at the upper point being applied by means of a pressure cylinder interposed between the end movable plate and an attachment to the girder.
