[Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i)] In the production of semi-coke in an horizontal or inclined oven, a heating-flue is provided beneath the sole so that the lower portion of the charge can be overbaked. The greater shrinkage of the charge at the lower part facilitates the expulsion of the coke cake from the oven. The sole flue may be fired from both ends and the combustion products exhausted from the middle, or it may be divided into independently-heated sections.
