[Class 51 (ii)] A coke-oven heating-wall comprises vertical up-burning combustion flues c interposed between, and connected at their upper ends to downcast flues d adjacent the oven walls. Preferably the flues c and d are relatively staggered, as shown in Fig. 2, and adjacent flues c communicate with pairs of flues d, on opposite sides of the heating-wall. The end flues c<1> have two burners h and connect with two flues d on one side, and one on the other.
