Abstract

424,351. Gas meters. PARKINSON & COWAN (GAS METERS), Ltd., and WHITESMITH, I. N., Terminal House, Grosvenor Gardens, Victoria, London. Sept. 11, 1933, Nos. 25083 and 31555. [Class 54] The floor of the valve chamber a of a dry gas meter is formed integrally with at least two separated circular inner measuring chambers b, c and with the gas ducts leading from the valve ports to the measuring chambers b, c. The measuring chambers b, c are fitted with diaphragms d and are surrounded by outer measuring chambers h, each consisting of a bottom and three vertical sides formed with flanges by which they are attached to a central partition i. The measuring chambers h, the valve chamber and the valve chamber cover k may be secured together by long bolts j, or, alternatively, by studs cast or moulded in the valve chamber. The inlet and outlet gas connections g may be formed separately from the valve chamber and are secured by studs or screws in similar positions at the back of the meter. A compartment f in the valve chamber encloses the counting mechanism. The meter may be enclosed wholly in a casing m which is fitted with a cover n and secured to the connections g. Alternatively, the upper part of the valve chamber only may be surrounded by a protecting shell. The valve chamber may be moulded from a plastic material, such as synthetic resin, or cast or die cast from aluminium alloy, the flag-rod stuffing boxes and bearing points being formed or secured therein during the moulding or casting operation. The chambers h may be of synthetic resin or metal pressings. The protecting shell may also be of synthetic resin. In a meter comprising three measuring chambers, the partition i is omitted. One Provisional Specification states that the inner measuring chambers may be moulded or cast separately and suitably secured to the valve chamber.
