Abstract

423,703. Jib cranes. EVANS, O., 27, Chancery Lane, London.-(Demag Akt.-Ges. ; 64, Werthauserstrasse, Duisburg, Germany) May 8, 1934, No. 13935. [Class 78 (iv)] In a level-luffing jib crane, the jib is carried on two pivoted links 2, 3, arranged below it so that the centre of gravity 14 of the jib moves horizontally while the jib head rises or falls. As shown in Fig. 1, level luffing is ensured by passing the load rope over a sheave 11 on the jib which approaches the hoisting drum 10 as the jib head rises in luffing in. In a modification, Fig. 2, the hoisting drum 10 is mounted on the jib, and is coupled to a pinion 16 which engages a rack 17 so that the drum 10 is rotated during luffing. The links 2, 3, may be balanced by counterweights as at 3<a>.
