Abstract
423,284. Glass manufacture. COMPAGNIE REUNIES DES GLACES ET VERRES SPECIAUX DU NORD DE LA FRANCE, Boussois-sur-Sambre, Nord, France. April 13, 1934, No. 11229. Convention date, May 5, 1933. [Class 56] Relates to the method of making plate or sheet glass in which molten glass is poured from a melting-pot 4 on to the casting table 1 of a rolling-apparatus, or between the rollers of a double-roll machine, and the pot is moved parallel with the axis of the rollers during the pouring-operation. According to the invention, the stream of glass that descends from the pot is seized, as it approaches the end of the roller 2, and is prevented from falling back on to the glass that has been poured. In the construction shown, the lateral spreading of the glass 3 on the table 1 is restricted by side plates 5, 6, the upper part 7 of the plate 6 being inclined away from the table. A blade 8, situated above the part 7, is secured to a plate 9 which is pivoted on an axle 10 and is counterbalanced by a weight 12. During a pouring-operation, at the time when the pot 4 approaches the side plate 6, the stream of glass descending from the pot meets the blade 8 and then continues to fall on to the plate 9. As soon as this takes place, the plate 9 is turned in the direction of the arrow f<2>, either by hand or automatically, and thus prevents the glass on the plate from falling on to the mass 3 on the table. The glass on the plate 9 can be drawn back into the pot.
