Abstract
493,894. Glass manufacture. OWENSILLINOIS GLASS CO. Oct. 27, 1937, No. 29387. Convention date, April 16. [Class 56] Relates to the method of delivering charges of molten glass from a feeder 16, Fig. 1, to the moulds 13 of a forming machine, by means of a shoot 20. According to the invention, each charge is inverted as it leaves the shoot so that the side chilled by contact with the shoot does not make contact with the bottom of the mould. The inverting-device consists of a horizontal L-shaped baffle 22 having an inclined end wall 24, and an inclined side wall 23 which has an horizontal. ledge 25 along its lower edge. The . device is arranged at the lower end of the shoot, and a glass charge C leaving the shoot rests momentarily on the ledge 25 and then rolls off and is inverted as it falls into a mould. The wall 24 stops the forward movement of the charge.
