[Class 46] In apparatus comprising an ejector 2 or other suction device which draws chlorine or other gas from a source of supply through a backpressure valve 7 and discharges it into liquid under treatment or into an auxiliary flow of water, a chamber 8 containing a float valve 12 is arranged on the supply side of the valve 7. Any liquid which may leak past the valve 7 when the suction device is shut down is collected in the chamber 8 and causing the valve 12 to rise is discharged through a passage 10. Air is admitted through the passage 10 if there is excess vacuum in the chamber 8 due to total or partial stoppage of the gas supply through the pipe 4.
